Good Old Fashioned Storyboards

These days most visualizing and concepting is done digitally on a Mac. But we here at Going Interactive like to break out the good old lead pencil and draw ideas out when we’re producing a motion graphics video.Right now we’re in the initial concept stages of a few motion graphics video projects. The process begins with us interviewing the client on the goals, objectives and tone of the piece. Then we create a rough script and draw it out in storyboard format to brainstorm the images and movement.

We’ve found that this approach works well when presenting the ideas back to the client. Instead of being visually caught up in a digital image they view a series of sketches that don’t necessarily imply a final graphic style, but an overall concept. This helps us to be able to then create a variety of stylistic approaches to the chosen sktetched storyboard.  From there we’ll create real graphics and move on to animation and voice over.

It sure does feel good to sharpen the pencil and draw from time to time!
